Ilya, his 3 younger sisters and their parents were referred to our partners at Helping Hands very recently by another poor family whom they had previously helped.
They were referred because this family rent a dilapidated house that is not really suitable for occupation and because both parents have severe problems with alcohol. They have come to the attention of the local authorities who question whether they are in a position to properly care for the children. They are monitoring the situation closely with a view to, perhaps, starting proceedings against the parents to deprive them of their parental rights and take the children into state care. The authorities believe that the children are “at risk”.
Certainly when this family first contacted our partners at Helping Hands they quite literally had nothing: no jobs, no income, no food, and no suitable clothes to survive the winter months. They will need our intensive and active involvement for at least six months if their situation is to improve and stay together as a family and in order to do that they will need your interest and your support too.
