Within the House of Light grounds was a small out-building of little use. Having identified a further need in Dneprodzerzhinsk, we have provided funds for Children's Hearts to build a new building comprising 3 bedrooms and a communal kitchen/dining room.
This offers safe refuge for teenagers leaving state care who cannot find employments without accommodation, and cannot find accommodation without a job. The facility will also be used by single mothers who may be vulnerable to abuse at home or have found themselves homeless. For each group this is a temporary fix until we can help find a permanent solution to their desperate need.
We have no doubt that the need will be great, and should funding permit we will seek to have further such facilities in the city.
Ruslana has been alone since 18. She has lived on the streets and been forced into prostitution. Men have abused and beaten her. She lives on just £50 a month with her two children. She is a good mother, very kind, but overly trusting of people. The shelter will be a much-needed refuge
